I'm still working on that content management system. Things are looking up, though... initial tests on the system have been successful. I just need to add some security, and... I'll probably be using a highly modified version of something I find on the 'Net. Ciao!
Back in the Guard
I haven't been able to get this news out as soon as I'd have liked to (due to some computer problems), but I am back in the National Guard. Some paperwork was filed, some things were done at the State level, and viola my Chapter 11 discharge was undone. I will be leaving on March 22, 2005, to start my MOS25M training.
MySQL On Order
The Home of AlexDW and Mgzi Networks are proud to announce that we have placed an order with our web hosting provider, Your-Site, for MySQL services at the tune of $40/year. The practical upshot of this is that we can work to add dynamic article and comment features present on nearly every other site of this nature on the internet. Discuss this article online, just as soon as we set it up...
Incidentally, "we've set it up", so you can discuss it.
(Editor's note: the comments are permanently closed, since there's no database anymore.)
Computer Update
Hello to all! I would like you to know that I am back, and it's about time. In the last few months, I have gotten a new computer.
Well, when I got back from basic training, one of the first things I noticed was that my beloved computer, Braxiatel, was totally non-functional. I believe that there was a crack in the motherboard, which meant that if you wiggled the keyboard connector and the processor (a Slot 1 card) a little bit, it would work for a while. After getting it to work, sort of, it finally failed completely. I went …
I Don't Know
I have just ordered DSL service from Verizon, so that should be nice. I'm getting ready for the high-speed madness! :-) Now I have to figure out if they use the standard DHCP auto-config, or if they are using the "living pain" PPPoE.
Alex's Lyrical Journey
AlexDW's House of Music is being ressurected, this time as a lyrics-only web site. Alex's Lyrical Journey is the result, and the first song to get the AlexDW treatment is Carry On Wayward Son.
(Editor's note: this one fell victim to the copyright police.)
The Return of Doctor Who
Making good on the 40th anniversary of Doctor Who, the BBC has commisioned a new Doctor Who series! Doctor Who will finally be returning to television screens everywhere!!! The new producer, Russell T. Davies, says this about the new Doctor: "As an alien, he is the most human you could wish to meet. He is so marvellously human, a scientist, an artist, passionate, funny, emotional." That sounds like our good Doctor! Finally, after thirteen years, we will have our hero around to save us from "the satanic powers of the night."
According to the Doctor Who News Page, the new …
New Hardware from AMD?
I was checking the hardware sites, and noticed that AMD had released a new processor. There is a full review over on Hot Hardware. Hmmm... It sure would be nice to have one of these for my new computer. (I think what it really means for me is that prices on other AMD processors will drop.)
I took two things from the review on HH. The first was that the Athlon 64 processor beats the pants off of the Pentium 4 (at least today). Secondly, getting a motherboard with the nForce chipset may be a bad idea. (I didn't want …
Decisions, Decisions...
Well, I'm working on a few ideas for this web site. Since it is basically in the "log of random thoughts" vein anyway, I am thinking of switching it over to using a CMS. I'm looking for something I can use with PHP, but doesn't require a database like MySQL (my web host charges extra for that.) I'm really looking for something a little more permanent to replace the old "announcement" system.
In other site news, I've added Google Ads to this site. I have also removed the old announcement box. Ideally, I'll be updating this site often enough to …
Quake 3, Anyone?
Happy new year, everyone! For the new year, I'm planning on building a new computer and getting a high-speed connection to the Internet. How will I do that, you ask? Well, I've got something planned, but I don't want to disclose the details right now. (It is not a new job.) In preparation for the high-speed madness, I have been practicing my Quake 3 skills. Unfortunately, it seems as though everyone has moved on from the "scene". So perhaps I'll have to find some other multiplayer online Linux-compatible killfest to play occasionally...
